A few posts back I talked about avoiding Twitter mistakes and mentioned about custom Twitter background images. Interestingly enough I received a few e-mails from friends and readers asking me:
“Should I really spend 100 bucks on a custom Twitter background?”
In short yes I do believe paying for a professional background is worth $100 and here is why.
Because Twitter has become so mainstream it is quite possible that this will be the first impression people receive of you, your product or service. With just moments to create a lasting impression why not leverage a custom background to paint the best overall picture and convey your message?
Twitter can be used as a great lead generation tool if used properly. Product placement and/or Service contact number and e-mail highly visible on your custom Twitter background can open you up to new business leads. People already ask things like “Does anyone know of a good person for…” or “Does anyone know of a product that does…”
I am betting that it will not take long before this starts migrating away from technology based request to everyday professional products or services. Proper branding of your products or services now can make you the go to person for your specific niche. Next time someone asks “Anyone know of a product that does this?” or “Anyone know of a person who does this?” If prepared, you could be receiving the lions share of those leads.
It’s no mystery that attention spans have gotten so small and marketing so aggressive that people are now shying away from clicking on website links in profiles. Most when on Twitter are only looking to read quick messages, to catch up with friends or read in the current news trends. Exposure to many new people via ReTweets that otherwise would not have known about you being prepared with custom Twitter background that displays product and/or contact information could be the only chance you get for a great and lasting impression.
Here are couple of things that you should have on your background depending on your business product or service:
- Picture of you
- Business logo
- Description of service
- Description of product
- E-mail
- Contact phone number
- Website URL
- Use the colors scheme of your site
So is it worth the hundred dollars? That’s a personal question you have to ask yourself. To me yes it is but $100 is different from person to person and if you’re pretty handy with Photoshop or paint you might be able to generate one yourself.
For those of you who are handy with Photoshop and have a talent for design you can generate some nice business creating Twitter backgrounds for people. If you create custom backgrounds feel free to post your information in the comments below.
